Demopolis is approximately one hour south of Tuscaloosa and two hours west of Montgomery and located at the confluence of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers.

Demopolis and the Black Belt Region of Alabama have played an important role in both Alabama's and our Nation's history. From the origins of the Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, and Choctaw Indian Tribes, to the meeting of Chief Tuskaloosa with Spanish explorer Hernando Desoto, the settling of Demopolis into vine and olive colony by Napoleon Bonaparte's exiled soldiers, the transformation into a major cotton plantation region in the mid 1800s, the birth of the confederacy, and the civil rights struggles of the mid-twentieth century.
There are many relics and ruins of the past remaining in our area from ancient artifacts and arrowheads to historic antebellum homes and bullets fired during the Civil War. This is an area rich in its culture, traditions and strength of its people. Down here, it's not just a piece of land, it's a piece of history.
